With a history of smugglers and sailors, the Dolphin Tavern, one of the oldest inns in Cornwall, is bound to be home to a ghost story or two. The most well known of these ghosts is ‘George’, a sea captain wearing a tricorn hat who many a visitor has claimed to have caught a glimpse of. It’s also thought that the unexplained footsteps that have frequently heard are those of the old sailor.
Other happenings at the inn include mysterious dragging noises and whispers in the dark, and many years ago a secret hiding place containing two casks of rum was discovered here, hinting at its past as a smugglers den.
